Sources We Use for Student Loan Figures

Last updated:

Every threshold, rate and fee on this site comes from a primary source: GOV.UK, the Student Loans Company, HMRC, the devolved student finance bodies and legislation. This page lists each source by topic. All links returned a working page on 6 October 2026.

The figures themselves live in one constants file in the site's code, so a rate is entered once and every calculator and page reads the same number. How those numbers are turned into repayments is on the methodology page. If a figure here and a figure on a page disagree, the primary source wins and we want to know: see corrections and updates.

How we cite

  • Load-bearing figures on our busiest pages carry a small [source] link to the specific GOV.UK, HMRC or SLC page, not a general link in the footer.
  • Where a source does not publish a figure, we leave it out or label it as an assumption. The assumptions our projections use are listed on the methodology page.
  • Other primary sources appear only on the page that needs them, for example NS&I for a savings rate, or the National Archives case-law database for court judgments.
  • The Commons Library briefing is a cross-check and context, not a replacement for GOV.UK. Its server rejects automated requests, so we confirmed it loads through a scraping service rather than a plain request.
