UK Student Loan Calculators: Every Free Tool
This is the full directory of UK student loan calculators on this site: 40+ free tools covering every plan, scenario and stage of repayment, with no login and no email required. Most people want one of three: the monthly repayment calculator for the figure that comes off your payslip, the main student loan calculator for a full lifetime projection, or the student finance calculator if you have not started university yet.
Start with our main calculator
Most people just need one tool: our UK student loan calculator covers every plan (1, 2, 4, 5 and Postgraduate) in a single form, with 2026-27 thresholds and interest rates built in. The tools below are for specific scenarios, plans and stages of repayment.
A few tools get most of the traffic on this site. If you are close to the end of your loan and want to know when your student loan gets written off, that checker returns the exact month. Want the exact amount that leaves your payslip each month? Use the monthly repayment calculator. Postgraduate borrowers usually start with the postgraduate loan repayment calculator, while anyone thinking about clearing their balance faster should try the overpayment calculator. To see the full picture over the life of the loan, the total loan cost calculator adds up interest and repayments to the write-off date, and if you are repaying more than one plan at once the combined repayment calculator handles both together. If you have not started university yet, the maintenance loan calculator works out your 2026/27 living-cost entitlement from household income, and the student finance calculator adds tuition fee borrowing on top to give the full package. Wondering how the balance grows before you graduate? The student loan interest calculator shows what interest adds each year.
Run a student advice service or university webpage and want one of these tools on your own site? Our free embeddable student loan calculator widget can be added with a single line of iframe code.
Rates, assumptions and sources
Every figure below is the 2026-27 published figure, read from this site's single source of truth at page-render time[source]. The 6% Plan 2 and Postgraduate interest cap covers the 2026/27 year only and is not assumed to continue[source].
| Plan | Threshold | Rate | Interest | Written off | Threshold freeze |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Plan 1 | £26,900[source] | 9% | 4.1%[source] | 25 years[source] | Uprated annually — no freeze announced |
| Plan 2 | £29,385[source] | 9% | 4.1% to 7.1% by income, capped at 6% for 2026-27[source] | 30 years[source] | Frozen at £29,385 until April 2030 |
| Plan 4 (Scotland) | £33,795[source] | 9% | 4.1%[source] | 30 years[source] | Uprated annually — no freeze announced |
| Plan 5 | £25,000[source] | 9% | 4.1%[source] | 40 years[source] | Frozen at £25,000 until April 2027 |
| Postgraduate Loan | £21,000[source] | 6% | 7.1%, capped at 6% for 2026-27[source] | 30 years[source] | Uprated annually — no freeze announced |
Write-off is counted from the April after the course ends, not from the course-end date itself, and the Plan 2 interest bands (£29,385 lower, £52,885 upper) are frozen alongside the Plan 2 repayment threshold.

Student loan calculator questions
Which student loan calculator should I use?
Start with the main UK student loan calculator if you want one estimate covering monthly repayment, total cost and write-off date together. Use the monthly repayment calculator if you only need the figure that comes off your payslip. Use the student finance calculator if you have not started university yet and want to know how much you can borrow. Everything else on this page handles a narrower situation: multiple jobs, Self Assessment, career breaks, overpayments and so on.
Are these UK student loan calculators free?
Yes. Every calculator here is free and none require an account, a login or an email address. Results are estimates based on published thresholds and interest rates, not a statement of your actual Student Loans Company balance.
Do the calculators cover Plan 1, Plan 2, Plan 4, Plan 5 and Postgraduate loans?
Yes. The main repayment tools support all five UK loan plans, each with its own repayment threshold, repayment rate and write-off period. Plans 1, 2, 4 and 5 repay at 9% of income above the threshold; a Postgraduate Loan repays at 6% above £21,000. If you are not sure which plan you are on, the student loan plan cohort finder identifies it from your course start date and study country.
How accurate are the results?
The calculators use the current published thresholds, repayment rates and interest rates for the 2026-27 tax year. They cannot know your future salary, future government policy changes, or the exact balance the Student Loans Company holds for you, so treat every output as a projection rather than a guarantee. Check your live balance in your Student Loans Company online account.
